Marisa part 2: Marisa is a #breastfeeding advocate and when her son, Abraham, was 6 months of age, she discovered that she had the BRCA1 gene mutation, which increased her risk of breast cancer by 80 percent. Then, she decided to honor her son’s decision to self-wean and when he was 2.5 years old, she went through a double mastectomy, a decision that she is now sharing with the world in order to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention.

Marisa is a force of nature and she kindly authorized me to capture a portion of her infinite and profound story in two canvases.

Part 1 is this photo: a mesmerizing gaze that marked the last time that Marisa breastfed her son, Abraham! This was captured right before her double mastectomy!
